September 23, 2020 – The YWCA Union County held its ground breaking ceremony on September 23rd to mark the beginning of construction on its new Elizabeth facility to replace the building destroyed by fire one year ago this month. This new facility will be a modern and fully accessible structure to house programs and offices. Scheduled to open in September 2021, it will replace a 150 year old structure that served the YWCA for 100 years. According to YWCA Union County CEO, Jan Lilien, “It is fitting that this project occurred during our Centennial Anniversary. We are excited to stay in the City of Elizabeth and continue our history of serving Union County. This building not only continues our existing services, but gives us room to grow new programs.” For more information, contact Jennifer Vriens, Director of Development.
